It is a preliminary documentation of the words of the older form of the language used in writings by native speakers from the early twentieth century, including William Jones, and the collection of manuscripts written for Truman Michelson of the Bureau of American Ethnology. The name Meskwaki (earlier spelled Mesquakie) replaces the historical name Fox.
