Beschreibung

Lorenzini (who wrote under the name Carlo Collodi) lived from 1826 until 1890. Near the end of his life, he became entranced by the idea of writing the tale of a puppet who had a heart and a mind -- Le avventure di Pinocchio, they called it as they published it in weekly installments in Il Giornale dei Bambini, the first Italian newspaper for children.
Carlo Lorenzini died unaware of the fame that waited for his work; as in the allegory of the story, Pinocchio eventually went on to lead his own independent life, distinct from that of the author.

Portrait

Carlo Lorenzini, better known by the pen name Carlo Collodi (1826 - 1890), was a children's writer born in the Grand Duchy of Tuscany and writer of the world-renowned fairy tale novel The Adventures of Pinocchio. During the Italian wars of Independence in 1848 and 1860 Collodi served as a volunteer with the Tuscan army. His active interest in political matters may be seen in his earliest literary works as well as in the founding of the satirical newspaper Il Lampione in 1853. This newspaper was censored by order of the Grand Duke of Tuscany. In 1854 he published his second newspaper, Lo scaramuccia ("The Controversy").
