Recently completed before her murder, this book is an unflinching record of the plight of millions of Russians during Putin's Presidency, by the accomplished investigative reporter Politkovskaya. She interviews people whose lives have been devastated, from the mothers of the children who died in the Beslan siege to the Russian soldiers maimed in Chechnya. With an foreword by Jon Snow.

Known to many as 'Russia's lost moral conscience', Anna Politkovskaya was a special correspondent for the Russian newspaper Novaya gazeta and the recipient of many honours for her writing.
She is the author of A Dirty War, Putin's Russia and A Russian Diary, to be published in April 2007. Anna Politkovskaya was murdered in Moscow in October 2006.
